《Personal Student Portfolio 2005-2007》(PDF online preview version)
This portfolio includes my shortlisted 16 pieces of 3 year university study work in RMIT Australia, that involves a 48.1MB compressed PDF file with more than 30 pages. Please make a full download before you start reading it.

特別鳴謝Sarah、Ryohei作《V.1.0》的封面模特兒,K.P. Lee (佢曾經表示用洋名褒獎不太高興,那就用中文名好了)這幾年來協助大部份的攝影工作,就連相關的作品照片,也是他拍的,還有一堆共過患難的事情,一言難盡;(擺頭跟擺尾我都覺得太Gimmick太行貨,這個thank you list我把最重要的人物放在中間出場,篇幅比例也佔最多,算夠朋友了吧) 請接受我三個響頭(三扣拜)。還有這幾年在學校中認識的兄弟:Edmond、Edward、Jordon、Kenneth、Ding在學校裡的幫忙。 就趁新年祝大家事事順利吧。
*2006年中其中一份名叫《Coffee Reminiscences》的咖啡文化節CI,因為原作已經遭折皺,不能復原之餘,原來的AI檔案也已經找不回,只剩下那個維多利亞式的logotype,整份設計原案支離破碎不便獻醜;所以沒有能夠放進這次的portfolio內,是一大遺憾。不然的話,以其顏色、攝影、包裝設計、文字排版的配搭,絕對應該放上是份portfolio的首頁作主角,而不是那份timetable package了。*

(I am too lazy and weak in saying something deep in my topics in English....perhaps I did all-the-time think everything too far away from the reality.....and perhaps I should pay something for my lazy attitude on hard writing articles in both languages......consider should I bow down under the hazardous 38'C sunshine for a whole week as a punishment of not willing to writing this new topic in English again? :p deeply deeply sorry about this decision....)
(好啦好啦我投降啦我承認我已經失去了將文章翻譯成英文的耐心啦又不是寫得好寫英文的話隨時寫得比中文爛濫懶難上千幾二千倍。各位外國朋友我不得不特此向你們扣三個響頭著件I am guilty in __________ Tee遊街示眾一星期以表歉意......)
看過了美加港澳四地的設計,我都不能歸納出標題上寫的這一句(在別人眼中口中不斷強調的)老生常談。
我們大可以用很多歷史字眼,來介別身邊眼見任何一件事物的人地時事形容詞。像Arial我們會想到Microsoft,想到Helvetica,1957,Simplicity,Modernism等等等等無限上鋼。
問題是甚麼事物我們要稱之為Art?
如今世界上大多群體都將Art的定義著眼在被動的五官上,音樂文化視覺尤為Art所包括的主要範圍。這可能是歷史因素,也是歷來大眾權威對一件事物的認知認可方式所帶來的定義。
我們故且將過去我們所讀的一切藝術歷史撇開不談,畢竟現在Art與Design的分家界線愈發明顯,我們也很理所當然地用functional usage、fundamental skills來定義一件事物究竟是art piece定係product。
而我們又彷彿理所當然地同意,一切事物是有Art的元素在內的。
我實在不解。為甚麼?
當現今我們連行為也可以是藝術、幾十年前一個尿兜也可以是藝術,以至我們在唸設計時十個導師九個都說Art is Everything in Everywhere的時候,當wikipedia對Arts的定義下了這樣的一道註腳:
...the definitions of these terms overlap to some degree.

Well, I may want to start some issues raised from my mind since I've recently watched the documentary film
So, please feel free to leave a message here to suggest any topics / questions relates to Helvetica. I can't guarantee that the answers will be shown here, but I hope that we can discuss and try to look for them. I would start writing something about it within next week.
Some idea footnotes from the film so far (welcome to start sharing your point of view to these ideas, cheers) :
1) Was the existence of Helvetica a very important reason that changed the trend of traditional advertising visual strategy from 60s : from gorgeous illustration to simplicity, from spokesman to the product itself, from visually attractive to slogan. Slogans and typefaces became an important part of a corporate identity?
2) I will compare the case of New York Subway (which widely mentioned in the film) and the Metlink in Melbourne, discussing the effectiveness of using Helvetica in their stuff.
3) and somewhat more coming...
前幾天去了看Helvetica紀錄片,想了很多,有很多相關議題想嘗試放上來討論。然而在開筆探討之前,我想先徵求一下大家的意見:大家想循甚麼方面去探討Helvetica呢?又或許,在我們開始探討前,應該先對它有多幾分了解。
所以我決定特意開這個臨時的欄目,給大家留下所有心目中對Helvetica的問號,不論是歷史方面的,抑或是文化方面美感方面的亦可。我的知識智慧很有限,多數不能解釋到甚麼。但至少希望可以做個小小的交流吧。
我目前記下來打算探討的相關題目如下(也很希望有人會順道指點一下,謝謝):
1) 片中提及,因著Helvetica的出現,60年代的廣告(主要是印刷廣告)作風有很大的轉變:從華美畫風走向簡約構圖、代言人或美人美景為主導變成以產品本身為主導、字體設定及標語逐漸成為品牌形象的其中一部份、等等等等。以上種種,真的是Helvetica的影響所引致嗎?
2) 我會順道引用New York Subway (片中經常引用的生活例子) 和墨爾本的Metlink,兩者在使用Helvetica作為品牌指定字款時,其實用性或美觀性又如何呢?
3) 還有還沒浮出腦袋的疑問...

Metlink的廣告對反派分子來說總是娛樂性豐富的。繼前年電車上關於"Authorized Officer have power to arrest you if you do not comply"的fare evading issue廣告被改成"Authorized Officer will soon have the power to shoot to kill (anyone)"之後,我就總是期待著有下一次的倒米廣告。今年,又有了。
先看看《Metlink在2007年6月發放的是次宣傳campaign新聞稿》,如果我是反派分子的話,看到那堆Metlink常常標榜的數字,首先諗到可以諷刺的係Metlink將市民當沙甸魚,非要把所有車卡都打爆不可(... a full train can replace up to 800 car trips... a tram carries around 100 passengers replacing more than 80 car trips... One train full of passengers is equal to a stationary line of cars over 5km long... One full tram takes ....)咁係咪即係話,唔打爆晒所有車卡的話,公共交通就唔夠有效唔夠環保喇?當報紙差唔多日日有讀者投訴脫班,甚至連Connex都已經持續半年因為服務未達標而被判罰款,而公共交通需求又持續上升,但係票價不減反升的時候,Metlink可唔可以將D funding用得實際點?至少,唔該,咪當班通勤者係死物好唔好?賣廣告叫人俾錢黎做沙甸魚,這算是甚麼宣傳概念和邏輯?Metlink又有沒有調查過市民的通勤習慣?我相信如果有認真做過的話,Metlink可以循更有說服力觀點來教育大眾多用公共交通;至少唔洗好似今次咁,技窮而牽強到要借環保黎過橋,下次不如借全國制水做楔子用埋an uncovenient truth再加世界末日黎嚇市民丫笨?
撇開上列一堆對錯症下錯藥的問題不談,先看看最近推出的宣傳campaign:
這張圖是前陣子在各大電車站張貼的燈箱廣告所用的。用大隻動物來載小鳥是很不錯的意念,視覺效果上也十分理想。問題是可唔可以唔好用水牛?換返隻馬得唔得?繼上次果張黑底白字寫明"You see this ugly advertisement because the fare evaders still exist"(類似意思的slogan)的自拆招牌式標語後,今次用隻水牛黎比喻做巴士/火車/電車,是在暗示/明示Metlink的公共交通系統並不快捷嗎(至少現在connex train為了達標避罰款而將法定班次的行程都拖慢了)?話晒都係公營機構既公民教育廣告,可唔可以做得嚴謹返少少?至少唔好下下都擺個倒米位俾人潤丫?
角度同方式變得不同,即使主角照舊(雖然至少比水牛好...),這樣一來,意念的表達效果就遠遠不及上一張了。 看到這張我很懷疑,其實這一套campaign的brief是怎樣寫的......唔通水牛配雀仔只是萬分之一的偶然好物?
當然你可以說,倒米位係乜廣告都會有。只是,如何避免卻又是一家企業在制訂宣傳策略時需要考慮的呢。而,要達到最佳的服務產品/品牌宣傳效果,最先要做到的,相信仍然是要服務/產品本身有返咁上下至得;正所謂無咁大個頭咪戴咁大頂帽丫嘛。

I found that some of my friend blamed me about the font size of this blog. Some said the Chinese font is too large/small , English font too small/tiny/not equal to the scale compared to Chinese... etc.
I would like to find out the most popular solution for it.

The released works here are my works done in Australia in these few years, that I intended to put them into my final portfolio of my graduation coming end of December 2007.
Those pics are taken urgently and pretty rush (sigh~what can I do when I shoot them by using my IXUS camera...) before the assessment thus I would like re-take most of them after I've got all my items back...well, thank to Sean who made these pics for me even when we guys are deadly busy at that monent.
More works will be included in the final folio as well, but the list is yet confirmed as I could yet make sure what exactly my career plan. If anyone have any ideas/feedbacks about my works and the design industry, please feel free to tell me here (or in MSN / e-mail....etc). You may even say "the works are f**king stupid" if you want ~XD
* All rights reserved about all my works. Certainly you may try to copy/steal/refer to my ideas or layouts bla bla bla without my permission but I strongly discourage. I understand the risk of it but I post them here simply because of seeking more possible feedbacks for further corrections or improvements. Please, ever, remember, respect.
已經陸續選定某些功課/作品要放進年底的卒業作品集了。剛上載的照片都拍得很粗糙,因為大部份都是前陣子為了趕及死線,而急就章用IXUS拍下的。將來等功課發還過後,一定會重拍。
另外還有一些功課還沒決定要不要列入作品集裡,畢竟有些作品不是太適合切雞工業的需求吧...不過話說回來,我也不確定自己將來要找甚麼類型的工作,所以還是遲點才決定吧...
任何關於作品的意見都請直說無妨,有甚麼錯處也請各位指教一下吧...不用留手,請狠批吧XD
*所有作品版權歸作者本人所有。雖然本人很難確保不會有人從中抄橋/layout/圖/等等,但還是在此強烈呼籲不要抄襲。

【本報駐北京記者報道】今年是國家推行簡體字和推廣普通話五十周年,北京的語言學權威學者指出,二○○八年起,聯合國將改變現行繁、簡體並存的做法,把簡體字確認為中文的官方文字,使簡體字成為中文的唯一標準,相信香港和台灣也會逐漸隨世界潮流廣泛使用。學者認為目前不必急於在香港推廣簡體字,等市民認同了簡體字,再推而廣之。《漢語拼音方案》主要創製人之一,年屆一百歲的語言文字學家周有光昨日指出,現在漢字簡化的主要阻力在台灣。他認為,香港市民不接受簡體字,一定程度上受台灣影響,而台灣反對簡體字,是把文字改革和政治問題掛?。專家:暫毋須勉強港人使用周有光認為,由於沒必要同時使用繁簡兩種中文字體,聯合國正準備將所有的中文文件都用簡體字。隨?大陸近年在國際上的影響愈來愈大,全球學漢語的人逐步增加,簡體字慢慢會變成中文唯一的標準,那時候香港也會喜歡用簡體字,所以現時不必勉強港人使用簡體字。世界漢語?學學會會長陸儉明認為,漢字從甲骨文到篆書到現代不斷簡化,這是文字發展的必然趨勢,簡化漢字的目的是為了讓老百姓好認、好寫、好記。港人很快會發現簡體字的好處。陸儉明指出,現在世界有一股「漢語熱」,全球學習漢語的人愈來愈多。中央政府對漢語的國際推廣也很重視。此外,周有光指出,近年在推廣普通話時,以上海為首的大城市,紛紛提出保護方言的口號,但都是如上海話、廣東話和福建話等強勢方言,令強勢方言不斷增強,但是其他弱勢方言卻在萎縮。
1 )家陣係唔係國力大晒人口大晒權力權威大晒就可以乜都大晒呢?中國大陸真的當自己才是"正式"的華人代表/話事人可以呼風喚雨?
2 )我實在想不出聯合國作出這個決定的實際作用,也不明白為甚麼會有這樣的決定。也許將之與兩岸問題混為一談是過份敏感了,但也不能不懷疑大陸方面如斯鼓吹漢字簡化的原因,與台灣沒有關係。至少這樣的文字歧視足以再惡化兩岸關係了。
3 )當然不用勉強香港人去學啦,家陣香港人跟大陸人做生意,英文唔用得,繁體中文都唔用得;連書本都簡體化,到時連香港也容不下繁體字了。
4 )簡體字本來就是對中華文化帶有破壞性的產物,幾乎完全的將中文字的構造和演變甚至本質都歪曲了。更不要忘記它的出現並不是因為想"簡化"漢字,它只不過一種政治工具來否定中華傳統文化而已。
5 )簡約主義是一種主義,不是規條,不是排外性的。
